Dr. Dan Siegel’s Comprehensive
Interpersonal Neurobiology (IPNB) Course

What is Interpersonal Neurobiology (IPNB)?

Interpersonal neurobiology (IPNB) is an interdisciplinary framework that seeks to understand the complex interplay among human relationships, the mind, and the brain. It integrates findings from various fields such as neuroscience, psychology, and attachment to explain how personal experiences and interpersonal relationships shape the development and functioning of the brain, which in turn influence emotional, social, and cognitive processes. IPNB emphasizes that our relationships and social connections have a profound impact on our mental health and neural functioning.

Why Study Interpersonal Neurobiology (IPNB)?

Studying Interpersonal Neurobiology (IPNB) can be profoundly beneficial for several reasons:

Comprehensive Framework for Understanding Human Behavior

IPNB offers a comprehensive framework connecting psychological, neural, and relational aspects, enabling a deeper grasp of how these factors shape behavior and development.

More Empathy and Compassion

IPNB helps individuals understand the neurological basis of human connections, fostering greater empathy and compassion, especially beneficial for professionals in therapeutic, educational, and caregiving roles.

Enhanced Relationships

An understanding of IPNB enhances interpersonal relationships by providing insights into effective communication, conflict resolution, and emotional sharing.

Professional Development

IPNB benefits practitioners in psychology, psychiatry, education, and social work with evidence-based approaches to therapy, teaching, and community work.

Personal Growth

IPNB fosters self-awareness by revealing how one's brain influences relationships, leading to personal growth and improved self-regulation.

Innovation in Treatment

IPNB drives innovation in mental health treatment with holistic and personalized approaches based on the brain-mind-relationship connection.

Social Change

IPNB informs policies and practices to create supportive relational environments, particularly in educational systems and organizations, promoting social change.

What Our Students Have to Say

Testimonials

"Dr. Dan Siegel possesses one of the most brilliant minds of our century. His ability to integrate the brain, attachment and relationships in a coherent and simple way is commendable. Studying under Dr. Siegel is highly encouraged. I use his wisdom, knowledge and mindsight strategies in my own private practice."
Angela Bisignano
PhD, Clinical Psychologist

“I am learning more throughout this course than I did in grad school. And, so far, the first Q and A has been incredibly valuable. It feels as if I am in a classroom with the opportunity to engage the professor (which is lacking these days) …I often refer to [Dr. Siegel’s] work and recommend [his] books to my clients. … Since starting the program – after having read most of [Dr. Siegel’s] books – everything is clicking.”
Jennifer Summerfeldt
MACP, CCC
Edmonton, AB, Canada
"This course is enriching every part of my humanity as I apply it to my clinical work, my parenting, my spiritual practice and to all my relationships, both with others/the world and with myself. It is at once illuminating, fascinating, challenging and humbling to be a student of this course, and I am deeply grateful to you all at the Mindsight Institute."
Dr. Julie Meehan
PhD, DClinPsych, Clinical Psychologist

Continuing Education Credit (CEC) Information

Teachings are appropriate for health care professionals as well as the general public.

Interpersonal Neurobiology (IPNB) is highly relevant to the work of health care providers, as it offers a comprehensive understanding of the mind, emphasizing the importance of integration in optimal self-organization. By defining the mind from an IPNB perspective, healthcare providers gain insights into how the linkage of differentiated parts leads to flexibility, adaptability, coherence, energy, and stability in individuals. Mindsight, encompassing insight, empathy, and integration, is identified as a crucial element in fostering well-being and rewarding relationships. The developmental aspects of the brain influence relationships, consciousness, and neuroplasticity, and they highlight the significance of relational connections in shaping neural integration, essential for healthy relationships. Additionally, the identification of attachment categories and the scientific underpinnings emphasizing integration as the basis of health provide healthcare professionals with a framework for understanding and addressing mental health challenges.

This program offers 36 homestudy CE credits for psychologists and California licensed MFTs, LCSWs, LEPs, LPCCs, nurses, and chiropractors. Please see our Continuing Education Credit information page for more information and to determine if your association or board will accept credits offered by the Mindsight Institute and our co-sponsor, the Spiritual Competency Academy (SCA).

Our 6-month and 6-week “Live” models enable you to participate in six Live Q&A sessions with Dr. Siegel  (on Crowdcast), and they also grant you access to our Online Learning Community, where you’ll be able to join study groups and discuss the course content with your peers. Please note that Q&A sessions represent the workshop’s only real-time events, as all lecture materials are pre-recorded and asynchronous. This content is rolled out to “Live” students gradually (on either a monthly or weekly basis), and you will be able to work through it at your leisure.

The course is self-paced, and you will maintain lifetime access to all of its lectures and study materials.

The “On-demand” model contains all of the same pre-recorded lecture content, but it does not include access to our weekly Q&A sessions or our Online Learning Community. Should you sign up for this version, you’ll gain immediate access to all course segments–so you can begin learning right away!

The course is self-paced, and you will maintain lifetime access to all of its lectures and study materials.

The two “Live” versions differ only in their scheduling. Students in our 6-month cohort will gain access to new lecture materials each month, whereas those in our 6-week cohort will receive new content on a weekly basis. Live Q&As will occur on the same timeline: either monthly or weekly. Please feel free to select the course version that best suits your schedule.

Regardless of the “Live” cohort in which you enroll, you will have the opportunity to attend six Q&A sessions, participate in our Online Learning Community, and maintain lifetime access to all of your course materials.

In our “Live” course models, lecture materials will be rolled out incrementally–either monthly or weekly–in preparation for the six scheduled Q&As with Dr. Siegel. The first course segment will become available to participants on their cohort’s launch date.

If you sign up for our “On-demand” course model, all materials will become available to you immediately. You can begin learning right away!

In total, the IPNB workshop contains 36 hours of pre-recorded content, and the segment-by-segment breakdown is included below. Depending on the course model you select, these modules will either be distributed monthly, weekly, or–for “On-demand” students–immediately upon registration.

Segment 1: 8.5 hours/CE Credits

Segment 2: 5 hours/CE Credits

Segment 3: 5 hours/CE Credits

Segment 4: 6.5 hours/CE Credits

Segment 5: 5.5 hours/CE Credits

Segment 6: 5.5 hours/CE Credits

Whether you register for the “Live” or the “On-demand” version, the pace at which you move through the content is up to you: You will maintain lifetime access to all course materials, and there is no deadline by which you must complete the training or submit your exams. Even if you’re seeking CE Credits, you’re welcome to take as much time as you’d like!

A largely student-driven portion of our platform, the Online Learning Community is a gathering place for those enrolled in the “Live” course model. There, you’ll be able to create study groups and connect with your peers around the world–exchanging ideas, asking/answering questions, and sharing resources throughout the workshop.

The Community will also serve as the location where all notices, reminders, and additional information will be shared from the Mindsight Institute and Dr. Siegel. Once you enroll in the “Live” training, you will receive an email invitation with all of the instructions you’ll need to participate in this feature.
