This course offers:
- A discussion of the Domains of Integration and a deep dive into the seventh, eighth, and ninth domains: Interpersonal, Temporal, and Identity.
- An exploration of how each of these domains applies to Interpersonal Neurobiology (IPNB)–a trans-disciplinary, scientific framework–and to Dan Siegel’s Mindsight approach.
- Cutting-edge science and insights on Interpersonal, Temporal, and Identity as Domains of Integration essential for the cultivation of mental health.
- Practical tools, case examples, and detailed descriptions of how to use the material in treatment planning and intervention.
- Experiential elements and reflections to support the cultivation of integration–and to help you make the material your own.
- Written materials, including an outline of the course and a complete index of studies, books, and resources mentioned throughout the training.
What is Interpersonal Neurobiology (IPNB)?
Interpersonal Neurobiology (IPNB) is an interdisciplinary framework that seeks to understand the complex interplay among human relationships, the mind, and the brain. It integrates findings from various fields such as neuroscience, psychology, and attachment to explain how personal experiences and interpersonal relationships shape the development and functioning of the brain, which in turn influence emotional, social, and cognitive processes. IPNB emphasizes that our relationships and social connections have a profound impact on our mental health and neural functioning.
Learning Objectives for Participating Health Care Professionals
At the end of the program, you will be better able to:
- Describe how the brain develops and changes through relationships, consciousness, and neuroplasticity.
- Describe how relational integration leads to neural integration.
- Analyze issues of mortality, uncertainty, and transience and the experience of the Arrow of Time in support of temporal integration.
- Describe how to support identity integration in ways that may cultivate more compassion and kindness, and reduce stress and distress.

Continuing Education Credit (CEC) Information
Teachings are appropriate for health care professionals, as well as the general public.
Interpersonal Neurobiology (IPNB) is highly relevant to the work of health care providers as it offers a comprehensive understanding of the mind, emphasizing the importance of integration in optimal self-organization. By defining the mind from an IPNB perspective, healthcare providers gain insights into how the linkage of differentiated parts leads to flexibility, adaptability, coherence, energy, and stability in individuals. Mindsight, encompassing insight, empathy, and integration, is identified as a crucial element for well-being and fostering rewarding relationships. The developmental aspects of the brain influence relationships, consciousness, and neuroplasticity and highlight the significance of relational connections in shaping neural integration, essential for healthy relationships. Additionally, the identification of attachment categories and the scientific underpinnings emphasizing integration as the basis of health provide healthcare professionals with a framework for understanding and addressing mental health challenges.
This program offers 5.5 homestudy CE credits for psychologists, and California licensed MFTs, LCSWs, LEPs, LPCCs, nurses, and chiropractors. Please see our Continuing Education Credit information page for more information and to determine if your association or board will accept credits offered by Mindsight Institute and our co-sponsor, the Spiritual Competency Academy (SCA).
